About This File

404 Management by @Fosters saves your visitors from dead links.  The application manages 404 Page Not Found errors by allowing you to direct users to other URLs , error pages that boost usability, improve user experience, and even raise a smile.

The app manages 404 errors in two ways:

  1. All 404 Page Not Found errors will be recorded in a log
  2. You can redirect to a new target (eg. custom 404 error page)

What are 404 Pages?

A 404 page is also known as an “error page” or “Page Not Found” page. This page indicates that the user reached the domain they requested, but the URL path provided no information. 404 pages cover any broken or dead links on your site.

Your 404 page catches visitors who click on that broken link so they won’t get bounced off your site or rerouted to a broken page. Instead, they’ll get a simple error message that says “Page Not Found,” and they can go back and start over.  While it's better to usually fix the broken link, it's important to always have a 404 page in place as a backup.
