Daniel
Daniel
This week we have announced our weekly wednesday release cycle.
This helps you and us to plan and test the new versions better than in the past.
Also an important announcement: Now with IC5 being officially released, we're also stopping our early bird phase and any starting on monday we'll increase the prices for our applications! So if you want one, get it NOW!;)

Behind the scenes we've done a lot work for the competitions app, which should be available in the next few weeks

Daniel
Daniel
Welcome to our first Release Wednesday.
Instead of doing random releases once a feature was finished, we'll try to be more organized.
Until there's a real need for an immediate release, new features and bug fixes will be first tested here properly and then released.

So, starting today we're happy to announce the availability of
Bookmarks 1.0.5 fixing the overview page issue
System Log Improvements 1.0.4 implementing the Confirmation Modal
Support Ticket System 1.1.1 with several fixes

I'm sorry that we still have no screenshots for some of the applications, but due to a bug in IC5 we're losing them on each upgrade of the file, so I'm waiting for a fix before I upload them.
Daniel
Daniel
This week we have released Support Ticket System 1.1.0 which includes several enhancements and several bug fixes.
Next to this we have started working on some internal tools to improve the ideation and release process, which you have probably noticed here

Next week we'll focus on the competitions app, our internal tools and we'll also review the templates and language strings from STS (Support Ticket System), so if you're planing to work on custom translations, please hold on until the next release;)

  • Another Week, another update

Daniel
Daniel
I have updated this site to IC5 last weekend, so the last week was spent with fixing some underlaying issues with my custom applications.
The most important fix was that downloads work again;)

Following Applications have received updates this week:
ACP Profile Links
System Log Improvements
Bookmarks
I have also installed 1.1.0 Beta1 of our Support Ticket System Application here, which includes some huge under the hood code optimizations and minor style changes to work with the recent IC5 release.
  • Our Weekly Updates are Back

Another busy week passed.
This week was all about porting existing IPS4 applications to Invision Community 5.
I haven't released any yet, and also don't expect any new stuff next week, because it's all about the announced advent calendar which is starting next Sunday!
We'll have here than daily new applications or some surprises until Dec. 24 🙂
  • Summary of this weeks work

Daniel
Daniel
This year we're going to have some fun here at ic-essentials.com
We'll have an amazing new surprise(release) every day for December 1-24!
New Invision Community 5 applications, Dev Tools, lets see what else:)

  • Every day a new release!

Daniel
Daniel
This was another very busy week here at ic-essentials.com
I've run a test upgrade to IC5 and am very happy with how things went, but I have decided to postpone the upgrade and not upgrade this wekend, there are still a few small show-stoppers.
I'm excited about the new File UI, which will highlight now also bundles and file dependencies, so if an application is an enhancement for another application (I've mentioned my modular applications approach for v5), it's being highlighted in the header and you're not able to download/ purchase it at all until you purchase the required file. This way nobody will purchase something by accident and we won't have to deal with chargebacks 🙂

The following applications were released this week:
Tags Page
Tag Suggestions
System Log Improvements
which brings us now to a total of 15 applications for IC5 with many more to come over the next few weeks;)

Support tickets will change the state automatically, but it can also be set manually when a client or staff member replies.

Tickets can be automatically closed after x days if there were no replies.

All necessary webhooks and REST API endpoints are also included with the first public version!

Webhooks:
dfsupportsystemTicket_resolved - webhook_dfsupportsystemTicket_resolved dfsupportsystemTicket_assigned_to - webhook_dfsupportsystemTicket_assigned_to dfsupportsystemTicket_create - Fired when Ticket is created
dfsupportsystemTicket_delete - Fired when Ticket is deleted dfsupportsystemTicketComment_create - Fired when Ticket Comment is created dfsupportsystemTicketComment_delete - Fired when Ticket Comment is deleted

Daniel
Daniel
We've talked in a previous blog entry about our upcoming support system, here's now part 2 with further information.
We've added a sidebar allowing you to see only the tickets you really want.
CleanShot 2024-11-04 at 21.28.46.mp4

In a previous blog entry we have also talked about the modularity of our upcoming applications, and the support system is the first application which is going to utilize this.
Instead of one "blown up" application, which has features which you probably don't need, we've created a already feature right base version and we'll provide additional applications enhancing the system.
With the release of the support system, we'll also have following 3 extensions available with many more coming later:

Saved Actions:
This extension allows the admin to create pre bulk actions, which can be executed with only one click while working on the ticket.

Move To Ticket:
This extension allows any moderator with permissions to manage tickets to create a ticket from any post.
The ticket will be created then automatically with the post author as submitted and the post content as ticket content.

Associate Purchase to Ticket:
This extension will add a new field to the Ticket Form, allowing members to associate their purchases to a ticket.

This was another busy week here at ic-essentials.com
I've spent a lot time with my lemonsqueezy application. As you have noticed, we're using https://www.lemonsqueezy.com as shop system and till yet I haven't really automated that much, which also means that I associated the purchases manually.
After the upgrade to IC5, this will be automated, so once you purchase your file, the system will search for the member with the same email as the one which was used for the purchase and automatically associate the purchase and you'll get instant access to the file.

My colleague has made amazing progress with our new Support System application, but we'll cover this next week in another blog post.

Following applications were released for IC5
One Time Username Welcome PM 404 Error Log Custom Redirects
I have also announced the upcoming pricing changes
  • Another busy week has passed, let's share what I've done:)

Daniel
Daniel
While everybody is moving to subscriptions, I'll try to move away from subscriptions!
They're just too tricky for small applications. Let's be honest => Most of the time a small application like our One Time Username or ACP Profile Link is coded once and probable never ever changed while the whole lifetime of the Invision Community 5 series, so in my opinion a subscription based price with automatic yearly renewals is not fair to my clients.
Other applications, like our upcoming Support System, will require frequent maintenance work, so here it will make sense to have a yearly subscription.
We had also a discussion about "one app to please them all vs many smaller apps" and here I can tell you that we're moving forward with the separate applications route!
You'll only need do install/purchase what you want and need! I expect that most people here will benefit of this change, because they'll really only purchase and renew what they need, instead of paying for the whole application where they probably need only 10% of it's feature base!
I know that some are disappointed now, it also means more work for me, but it's way easier to maintain applications now.
Another advantage of this is, that now more applications can share the same feature ( more TBA;) )

I'd love to hear your feedback here.

  • Let's talk about money, money...

The last weekly recap was a while ago, sorry for this.
In fact it, it was 14 weeks ago when I created the last one https://www.ic-essentials.com/blog/2024-week-11-news-r22/ but there wasn't much happening since then.
Thanks to IC5 the next weeks & months will be very busy, so it makes sense to start my weekly updates again.
We were very busy last week, 7 new applications were released for IC5.
Run Promotion for all Accounts Change Member Joined Date Change Post Date MassPM Club Members Block Banned Member Profiles ACP Profile Link Unanswered Topics Also the Invision Community 5 version of my Bookmarks application is now available for purchase https://www.ic-essentials.com/files/file/74-bookmarks/

Beside this, we have also announced our upcoming Support System.
A replacement for the IPS4 Support Module in Commerce, which was deprecated for IC5.
If you're interested into this, I would suggest to join our club https://www.ic-essentials.com/clubs/page/3-support-system/ to get frequent updates and to get involved into the development.
  • Let's restart the weekly recaps 🙂

Daniel
Daniel
Here are some screenshots and informations about our upcoming ticket system.
Tickets are created an managed via the frontend!
This was really important to me, I didn't want to move to the ACP to handle tickets!

Staff members with permissions to manage tickets, will have a new icon in the navbar once a ticket was assigned to them.

  • Yes, you heard it right, we'll release it:)

Here's a fast preview of what we have till yet

Daniel
Daniel
Invision Community released the first public beta last week.
This means that more people have access to this now, I've also seen a few public sites using it already for their new communities, I guess this also means it's time to start with the IC5 versions for my files.
So yeah, on Wednesday I'll start with the IC5 version for the bookmarks application!
Everybody with an active license will get a 50% voucher for the Bookmarks for v5 purchase!

  • Let's get ready to rumble.. IC 5 Beta is here

Daniel
Daniel
I'm happy to announce that the work on new Applications for IC5 has officially started here at IC-ESSENTIALS.
Once the first public beta of Invision Community 5 ( IC5)  is available, we'll have more than 9 11(*) applications ready in our downloads section!
It's going to be a new category, so the IPS4 files will still remain available for download!
The IC5 versions from existing applications will need to be purchased again because they had to be rewritten from scratch, but don't worry, existing clients will get a discount for the file!

(*) Right now 9 files are ready, but I'm really expecting to get more ready until the IC5 public beta gets available.

  • This was a busy weekend;) Let's get started with some news about IC5

This was a very busy week, let's start with Invision Community News.
IPS 4.7.16 was released this week and contains security fixes, a new feature and dozens of bugfixes.
I'm excited about the new databases in clubs feature, which I'm planning to use here on IC-Essentials for our applications support!
Matt has also published a new IC5 feature blog post about topic assignments. If you haven't seen it yet, I would strongly advise to visit https://invisioncommunity.com/news/invision-community/invision-community-5-assign-topics-to-moderators-r1299/.
It's just another feature that I'm excited about and which is going to be handy here.

It was also a busy week here, I finally released Competitions 1.5.0 which is mostly only a bugfix release, but it also contains a few enhancements like that the Read Status is logged now, so new entries will appear now in the Activity Stream too.
Now that it's hopefully bugfree (at least the annoying stuff should be resolved now) we can look at enhancements:)

Are you looking for an easy way to find 404 error pages on your IPS4 website and redirect them?
Here we'll share a few ways how to accomplish this
Why Track and Redirect 404 Pages in your community?
404 errors are bad for your site’s user experience. If users can’t find the page they are looking for, they will likely leave your site and go to your competitors.
This means you will lose potential customers and miss an opportunity to convert your visitors into communiy.
Aside from that, 404 errors hurt your SEO rankings. Search engine ranking algorithms often penalize websites when they run into broken links.
Method 1: Track & Redirect 404 Pages Using the IPS4 SEO Essentials application (Recommended)
The easiest way to track and fix 404 pages on your Community is by using the SEO Essentials Application.
With SEO Essentials you can track your 404 errors and create custom redirects.
Custom Redirects are also great if you moved a topic to your cms/blog and don't want to lose visitors from external links.

I think it's time for another upgrade here:)
We had no public shared news since black friday, which doesn't mean I wasn't busy.
We've had several new releases and a lot of planning for v5 happened in the background.
I've reviewed all the existing apps, defined feature scopes for the big apps which will be split into separate apps, reviewed my internal tools and started planning new ones for v5.
So that once IC5 alpha/beta is here, I can start coding:)

First, let me apologize for not being active here recently.
The last weeks were quite hard and I hadn't much time for IC Essentials, but we're back on track again:)
SEO Essentials, Forms, and Competitions will be updated before Christmas.
I have also created a new sub-forum called "Premium Support" where I'll provide support for IPS4 / IC5! So if you have any questions or problems, let me know and I'll try my best to provide an answer!
IPS also announced another IC5 feature recently which I really can't wait to use in my 3rd party apps!
https://invisioncommunity.com/news/invision-community/invision-community-5-badge-creation-and-icon-customization-r1292/
And last but not least, let's not forget about the IC Essentials Black Friday deals!

This week wasn't as great as expected.
We've managed to release only one instead of 2 new applications, but Post Types was really important to me because it's going to make the bug and suggestion management here much easier, so it's a huge win for all of us.
Now we have also leaked that we'll provide Andy's files here on IC-Essentials ( this was one of the devs which I meant in https://www.ic-essentials.com/blog/💥upcoming-changes🎇-r10/, but there's still more to come;) )
This weekend we'll release the competition app and the others should follow next week.
Besides this, the new app which I announced last week is still being tested and will also hopefully be available next week, and last but not least, the next major version of SEO Essentials is making great progress and should be also available in the next few weeks.

IC5 news:
IPS has announced another new feature => Helpful Answers. I really like that and will be using it here.
https://invisioncommunity.com/news/invision-community/invision-community-5-quickly-find-the-most-helpful-answers-r1290/

  • Let's recap what happened this week here and on invisioncommunity.com

Daniel
Daniel
I have created a new feature for this community, which makes it easier to keep track of suggestions and bugs in Download File Topics.
While it makes sense for the big apps to have a separate forum for Bugs and suggestions allow people to create a topic for each bug or suggestion, it's a waste of resources to have this for each app.

If you're a trusted member, you'll see a new option while creating posts under the editor

and also in the comment controls section

This is still WIP, once it was properly tested in the wild here, I'l release it in our downloads section!

  • New Feature for IC-Essentials: Post Types!

Trusted members will be now able to flag a post as a "Suggestion" or "Bug"

Daniel
Daniel
Hi and welcome to my first weekly blog post.
Starting today I'll try to post a weekly update sharing what happened here and especially what's happening behind the scenes.

And what's better to start this series, than this busy week?
We have released 3 new applications:
https://www.ic-essentials.com/files/file/45-predefined-topic-editor-content/?do=getNewComment https://www.ic-essentials.com/files/file/44-last-activity-date-on-acp-member-table/?do=getNewComment https://www.ic-essentials.com/files/file/43-404-management/?do=getNewComment which makes it now a total of 34 available files in our downloads section.
More than I wanted, but yea.. 😄

Next to this, we have also 2 applications that are being tested here and on other sites, where at least one will be available next week ( 100 points if you can guess which one?!  )
But wait, there's more! IPS has dropped a bombshell with their cutting-edge Theme Editor. We're brimming with excitement, and we hope you are too! Kudos to Ehren for an incredible job on this one. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, I encourage you to do so: Invision Community 5 - The All-New Theme Editor.
Next to this, Matt also posted a developer-related blog entry about the upcoming theming changes: https://invisioncommunity.com/developers/devblog/blog/ic5-theme-tools-r14/

Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the weeks to come!
  • Whoop Whoop, a lot happened this week, let's recap everything

Daniel
Daniel
It's finally here!
Now you can claim your purchase from the IPS marketplace.
To do this, please visit the file in our downloads section and use the "Claim Purchase" button.

Attention: NOT all files are available here (yet)

Please see  https://invisioncommunity.com/news/invision-community/marketplace-the-next-steps-r1286/ if you need further information about the marketplace closure and the future of IPS 3rd party applications.
  • Do you want to import your IPS Marketplace purchase to the IC Essentials System? Keep on reading to see how it works:)
